The Role of Sting in the nWo Era in WCW

Vibrant Sting Became Darker

Sting was the Icon in WCW. He was colorful and vibrant Sting and then the nWo came and his colors started to turn dark. As WCW began to grow darker, Sting matched and faced the darkness of the evil of the nWo.

Even though this storybook seemed to great. It was flawed none the less. It was dealt with booking problems of WCW. However, if it was now a days, there booking would do well with this modern day era and with that period times were changing and WCW weren't prepared for the change that was to come and that was it's battle with Time Warner and Aol.

As I mentioned Sting was vibrant and was the fighter who took it to the nWo. He stood silent in the sky the uppermost part of the sky and watched. As Sting said, "There is only one thing, nothing is for sure." He saw the decay of WCW. He saw Hogan and his thugs reign supreme and all Sting could do is watch. Hogan and Sting played head games with each other every Monday Night during the Monday Night Wars.

Turning Point of WCW was Sting vs. Hollywood Hogan

And then Sting and Hogan fought on WCW Starrcade 1997 with what could have been the biggest plotline that could have set up 98, instead it led to the downfall of WCW and the nWo and that was Bret Hart stopping the match with a fast count when it wasn't. I know I give heat on Bret, but it wasn't him, it was the booking of WCW then.

There storyline wasn't prepared for the disaster that was coming in the year of 98. However, the good part of the year was Goldberg. It was almost fitting that in January 1999's Raw, WWE took the ratings  war with Mankind's Victory. That day the nWo was riding on past glory and they figure they put Hogan on top again and they should have moved forward then, but got stuck on the past, they didn't make it count and they didn't build stars when they should have and the stars they built were rejected. 1999 wasn't bad, they tried to win, but at that time the war was lost and I feel Sting was lost to.

He was Wolfpac nWo in 1998. And then he turned heel and became a face once again. He was in a company that was falling and he was going down with the ship. I'm glad he came out fighting again and added to his legacy in the ring.

WCW Died, but the Legacy of Sting Lived On

Sting couldn't be blamed for the disaster, and they had no where to go with him. He did his best and it is sad that he was in the match that was a turning point in the down direction for WCW. He was very good and did the best he could and his better work was in TNA or Impact and now AEW. And he couldn't live up to expectation in WWE as he was injured, but now thrives in AEW.

I'm happy that he ended WCW with a match with his rival Ric Flair. And I am happy that he gets to finish his career where he started on TBS and TNT. Although it is another federation, the legends are still there and he is giving back to the industry.

Sting with his 35 year plus legacy is one of legends. As a WCW fan I wished better for it, but Sting reminds me of a nomad that gets called wherever he goes. And he is a nomad that winds up home again. TNT and TBS for wrestling is his home.
