Highlighting 3 Players from the 1980's

I am working on selling some baseball cards of the 1980's and in this lot I want to feature 4 players who have had good careers for their time. In this blog I feature Carlton Fisk, Wally Backman, and Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd. I know that this is an odd bunch to put them together, but what bonds them are that their cards I am selling in a lot with many other cards.

Carlton Fisk

Carlton Fisk was a player from the 1970's and the 1980s. He played for the Boston Red Sox and then the Chicago White Sox. He was inducted in the Hall of Fame in 2000. He started off his career in great fashion as he was awarded American League Rookie of the Year in 1972. Also, he finished his career with 376 Home Runs to become the catcher with the most home runs in Major League Baseball. This was later passed by Mike Piazza. He earned the nickname Pudge through his career in the MLB. His highlight of his career was in Game 6 in the 1975 World Series he hit the game winning home run to win the game. Carlton was one of the greats at his position in the 1980's. His 1980 Topps card is selling with the lot on eBay listed at the bottom of this page.

Wally Backman

With his debut in the Major League with the New York Mets on 9/2/1980, a championship career was in the future. And then the magic his on the 1986 season. He scored a total of 67 runs and stole 13 bases. And with the first time in his career batting a .320 average. It was the first time over .300. He was a major part to the New York Mets winning the World Series Championship in 1986. As of June 2023 Wally is the manager of the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. His 1986 Topps Card is also for sale in the lot on eBay listed on the bottom.

 Dennis "Oil Can" Boyd

Dennis' nickname came from his beer drinking days and oil can was from the town that he came from. In 1986, "Oil Can" Boyd had a career high of 16 wins with a record of 11-6 and a 3.71 ERA going into the All Star Break. His highlight of the season was in Game 6 of the Playoffs against the California Angels as he secured victory in a crucial game needed to advance to the World Series. Sadly, he got no support from his teammates as he let up 6 Runs overall in Game Three. The Red Sox went on to lose the Series against the New York Mets. He bounced back with a good season with the Boston Red Sox, but the team didn't win any championships until years later breaking the Babe Ruth Curse. His 1987 Topps Card is with this lot.

These are three important players from both teams of the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets. Two of the three have history in the 1986. Although one has won the Championship with the Mets. The other two have made history with victory for their team. When I remember the 1986 World Series, I remember "Oil Can" Boyd and I remember Wally Backman. I also remember collecting Carlton Fisk cards and much more. I almost don't want to sell them, but better cards are on the horizon and they will be for a good cause.

You could find these Cards in the Lot of 100 Baseball Cards from the 1980s with this link. It is selling on eBay.
